Welcome to the Hydrogen Therapy Guide!

Whether you’re a newcomer to Vital Reaction® or a faithful follower, you know that our company specializes in the business of health and wellness.

You also likely know that molecular hydrogen is our speciality; you might even say that it’s in our blood.

In fact, I’d go one step further and say we are one of the leading experts in molecular hydrogen therapy.

Just ask our partners at the Molecular Hydrogen Institute, a non-profit scientific organization supported by leading hydrogen researchers driven to provide peer-reviewed, top-notch, quality research.

If you have ever thought to yourself, “What is hydrogen therapy?,” you’ve come to the right place! So sit back, relax, and prepare yourself to be immersed in the world of H2 therapy.

The Science Behind Hydrogen Therapy

The Free Radical Theory of Aging

The Free Radical Theory of Aging holds that the damage free radicals do to our cells, particularly the oxidative stress that free radicals cause, is what causes our bodies to age. As we age, our internal defense system declines, allowing oxidative stress to accumulate and resulting in cell damage, disease and death.

Free Radicals & Oxidative Stress

Free radicals are missing an electron and attack healthy cells in order to stabilize. Whether it is through essential metabolic processes within the body (mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, etc.) or from external sources (pollution, alcohol, heavy metals, pesticides, etc.), we're constantly exposed to free radicals.  The more this occurs, the more oxidative stress builds and harms our health.

Most Harmful Free Radicals: Hydroxyl Radical & Peroxynitrite

The hydroxyl radical and peroxynitrite are the most dangerous free radicals. Their need to steal an electron is so powerful they attack healthy DNA, protein and lipids. This causes irreversible damage to cells and an increase in health challenges and disease.

Molecular Hydrogen

An Emerging Therapeutic Medical Gas

Hydrogen is the simplest, smallest and most abundant element in the universe. It is one of only four elements present in every living organism, along with carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen.  Hydrogen is made up of one electron and one proton.

Molecular hydrogen (H₂) consists of two hydrogen atoms bonded together as H-H. Molecular hydrogen is the primary form in which hydrogen is found. H₂ is a tasteless, odorless gas that is neutrally charged and highly bioavailable. When taken in gas form via a hydrogen therapy machine, benefits of the therapeutic properties of H2 are gained, including its actions as an antioxidant mediator, anti-inflammatory, and cell-signaling molecule.

Molecular Hydrogen

Nature Medicine, 2007
Since 1975, over 800 peer-reviewed articles have been written demonstrating molecular hydrogen to have therapeutic potential in essentially every organ of the human body and in 170 different disease models. More studies are being conducted every day and we are learning about the endless ways we can benefit from this miracle molecule through molecular hydrogen therapy.

How H₂ Therapy Works

Size

Molecular hydrogen is the smallest molecule and the only antioxidant that can access the mitochondria and cell nucleus under certain conditions. Unlike conventional, larger antioxidants, H₂ passes the cell membrane, so molecular hydrogen benefits are exerted immediately.

Selectivity

H₂ selectively targets only the most harmful free radicals without affecting useful free radicals that help maintain homeostasis. At times, common, non-selective antioxidants (Vitamin A, C, E, folic acid, etc.) can diminish the good free radicals that the body needs, thereby causing a potentially negative effect. H₂ does not.

Safe, Non-Toxic

Because its only byproduct is water, molecular hydrogen is 100% safe. As a result, molecular hydrogen tablets’ benefits include zero exposure to toxins and no chance of overdose.

Homeostasis

H₂ supports the body’s ability to maintain a condition of balance by neutralizing harmful free radicals and boosting the internal antioxidant system. This keeps oxidative stress low, supports homeostasis and decreases chance of disease.
